I Can’t Even Get a Denial
2:15

I live with complex health issues that require ongoing care.

But what has been hardest is not just my condition, but simply trying to actually access basic treatment.

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is getting something as simple as saline infusions at home. This is not a luxury for me. It is something my body genuinely needs to function.

But under Medicare, saline infusions are considered an excluded benefit in my situation. Because of that, infusion pharmacies will not even submit the request to insurance.

That means I cannot get a denial.

And without a denial, I cannot file an appeal.

I’ve asked providers, case managers, and pharmacies to submit it anyway just so I would have something to work with. Every time, the answer has been no.

I have been blocked at every step before I can even begin the process.

At the same time, my condition makes it extremely difficult to leave my home. Transportation is not just inconvenient, it is often not possible. What should be routine outpatient care becomes completely out of reach.

So I am left in a situation where:

  • I have a clear medical need
  • My providers understand that need
  • But there is no realistic path to access care

This is the part people don’t always see.

It’s not just about whether a treatment exists.

It’s about whether you can actually get it.

Right now, the system does not just make it difficult for me to access.

It makes it impossible.
