HOW WE OPERATE

Our Organizational Structure

Patients Rising operates through two affiliated nonprofit organizations:

Patients Rising | 501(c)(4)

The advocacy arm of our work.

Patients Rising (formerly known as Patients Rising Now) engages in public policy advocacy, civic engagement, and legislative education to advance patient-centered healthcare solutions.

The Patient Helpline Foundation |  501(c)(3)

The educational and community arm of our work.

The Patient Helpline Foundation focuses on training, research, public education, and developing informed patient advocates across the country. The organization is currently transitioning its trade name and web presence, with resources remaining available at patienthelpline.org during this period. A formal rollout of the updated name and integration into the Patients Rising website is planned for later in 2026.

HOW WE ARE FUNDED

Funding Overview

Patients Rising is supported by a diverse mix of funding sources, including individual donors, foundations, corporate members, and event sponsorships.

Support enables our work but does not determine our policy positions. Governance authority rests with our Board of Directors, and program direction is established independently.

We do not promote specific products or therapies. Our focus remains on advancing policies that improve patient access, affordability, transparency, and innovation in healthcare.

As a 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) structure, certain contributions may be tax-deductible depending on the entity supported. Donors may direct their contributions accordingly.

Patients Rising operates through affiliated but legally distinct nonprofit organizations. Each entity maintains separate governance, accounting, and compliance structures in accordance with federal law.

CONTENT & POLICY INTEGRITY

Editorial and Policy Independenc

Patients Rising maintains editorial control over all publications, educational materials, and policy positions.

We engage patients, caregivers, clinicians, researchers, and policy experts in shaping our work. Final decisions regarding content and advocacy priorities rest with organizational leadership and are governed by our Board of Directors.

We do not promote individual medicines, devices, or branded products. Our advocacy prioritizes policies that put decision-making power in the hands of patients and caregivers, strengthen access and affordability, increase transparency and accountability, and ensure America remains the world’s leader in developing breakthrough treatments.
